Prepare A Home Inventory

Wednesday, August 26, 2009 0 Comments

While it is important to protect your home with a homeowners insurance policy, you can't rely entirely on this if something unfortunate (i.e. fire, flood, theft, etc.) were to occur. Each claim needs to be accompanied with a detailed list of what was stolen or destroyed - which will prove ownership and value to the claims adjuster. If you haven't prepared this list prior to the disaster - you will need to create the list while you are under stress and trying to deal emotionally with what just occurred as well as what steps you should take to put your life back together.
We can create a detailed portfolio for you so that all your assets are identified and documented. Because we help protect your personal assets, you have better protection and can ensure your family's financial stability.

How To Insure Your Personal Possessions?

Thursday, August 20, 2009 0 Comments

Many homeowners are unaware that there are two options provided to them - as to how your personal possessions will be replaced due to damage or theft. Your insurance policy will state either Actual Cash Value or Replacement Cost. Actual Cash Value is the amount it would take to replace or repair your assets, minus depreciation. The settlement you would receive from the insurance company would be for a certain percentage of the original value, as depreciation (age and wear) has been taken into account. Replacement Cost is the amount it would cost to replace your assets with items of similar type and quality - without deducting for depreciation. While it may cost more to have Replacement Cost as part of your insurance policy, it is to your benefit if you ever have to replace your possessions.
For either options, before you receive any settlement - you need to prove ownership and value. The only way this can be done is with an inventory list - complete with descriptions, receipts and photos. Please visit our website for further information. www.jlksystems.com.

Home Destruction-Are You Prepared

Monday, August 10, 2009 0 Comments

Last week, several neighbors and I were discussing our unusual summer weather - one that has brought cooler temperatures, very little precipitation and no storms. Needless to say, that is the wrong discussion to have because only a few days later a "substantial twister" with winds of 75-112 miles per hour hit our area. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or deaths but there was a significant amount of damage to homes and businesses. Reading the reports of damage and the comments by the homeowners who experienced damage, I hope they are prepared so that when the claims adjuster shows up they can immediately provide the itemized list of items that were damaged or destroyed. Documentation is a significant factor in determining the reimbursement from an insurance claim. Photos and a detailed inventory list including scanned receipts validates your proof of ownership and value - which is key in receiving a settlement covering the full extent of the loss - in a timely manner.
Let us help you be prepared and protected.
